Moments with Mauao: Mount Maunganui Photography Prints

Mount Maunganui is a place I return to often with my camera, a landscape that shifts with light, tide, and season.

Moments with Mauao began as a way to capture these fleeting changes, from the stillness of early mornings to the movement of the ocean and the quiet presence of the maunga.

This body of work is now evolving into something new.

I am currently working on a dedicated collection of Mount Maunganui prints, a more accessible way to bring these scenes into your space. A curated release is coming soon.

In the meantime, you can explore available works within my current collections:

Liminal Tides, a collection of fine art photography prints exploring light, tide, and the in-between moments of the ocean

Quiet Coastlines, ocean-inspired digital fine art curated to bring the feeling of the sea into your home

Mauao, photographed at dawn from sea level on the Mount Maunganui coast

Moments with Mauao was my first fine art photographic collection, which explored different perspectives of our beloved Mauao in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The collection was a visual exploration by New Zealand water photographer Lou Burton (that’s me, hi 👋) of ocean scapes and colours of our natural world, experienced through all seasons during first and last light.

I love photographing ocean scenes both in the water and from the land here in New Zealand. I’m fascinated by the colours and effects of light across the sky and on the water, especially during blue hour and golden hour.

You can usually find me on the beach or in the ocean at first light here in Mount Maunganui, no matter the season or water temperature.
