Mount Maunganui is a place I return to often with my camera, a landscape that shifts with light, tide, and season.
Moments with Mauao grew from years spent photographing the coastline I call home. From the stillness of early mornings and moonrises over the ocean to surfers at Main Beach, changing skies and the grounding presence of Mauao, this collection is my photographic record the Mount through my eyes.

Photographing Mauao and the Mount Maunganui Coastline
Moments with Mauao began as my first fine art photographic collection and has continued to grow alongside the years I’ve spent living and photographing here in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
I’m obsessed with the way the same landscape can feel completely different from one day to the next. Mauao might appear through sea spray at dawn, silhouetted against a pastel sky, reflected across wet sand or surrounded by surfers on a summer morning. There’s something really special about this iconic location, and I relish in spending my life observing and capturing these extremely special moments.
I photograph from both land and water, often around first or last light when the colours along this stretch of coast are at their most interesting. Blue hour, golden hour, moonrise, changing tides and the movement of the ocean have all become recurring threads throughout my work.
You can usually find me on the beach or in the ocean at first light here in Mount Maunganui, no matter the season or water temperature.
